When: May 13, 2013 – 7-9pm
Where: Metro Hall Rotunda – 55 John Street

A public consultation will be held at May 13 for residents to learn about and provide input on City of Toronto development charges, draft rates and related policies – such as development charge exemptions and transition provisions.

Since last fall, Toronto Women’s City Alliance’s planning team has been engaged with The Official Plan Review to ensure that women’s concerns are addressed in Official Plan (OP) Policies. These concerns relate to women’s safety, housing, services, employment and mobility needs. For more information about development in Toronto or to advocate for gender disaggregated data collection and analysis in OP policies, contact us at info@twca.ca, OP in the subject line.

Development charges are fees collected from developers at the time a building permit is issued. The fees help pay for the cost of infrastructure required to provide municipal services to new development, such as roads, transit, water and sewer infrastructure, community centres and fire and police facilities.

Most municipalities in Ontario use development charges to ensure that the cost of providing infrastructure to service new development is not borne by existing residents and businesses in the form of higher property taxes.

A comprehensive background study that is being conducted for the City determines the development charge rates that can be levied under provincial legislation (the Development Charges Act). The draft rates have been calculated and released for consultation and can be viewed here.

Learn about the issues, provide your views and feedback, and join discussion groups on key topics at the consultation session from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 13 at the Metro Hall Rotunda , 55 John St.

Registration is requested by emailing devcharges@toronto.ca with your name, organization (if applicable) and the number of persons attending. More information about the City of Toronto’s 2013 Development Charges Bylaw Review is available here.
