TWCA was part of a great IWD event yesterday in Scarborough, hosted by WE ARE FOR WOMEN. A packed room engaged with a panel of speakers, including Krittika Ghosh of OCASI, Kara Santokie of Toronto Women’s City Alliance, Israt Ahmed of Social Planning Toronto, and Scarborough MPP Mitzie Hunter. The speakers’ remarks covered domestic violence and sexual harassment, how poverty affects women, and the Government of Ontario’s new initiatives to curb violence against women.
The audience was also treated to an awesome cultural show with performances by community members, and a flag parade! It was wonderful to have the participation of lots of female youth in particular, ensuring that the tradition of marking the importance of IWD will carry on.
